Buckwheat was a very unhoppy bunny yesterday. Not only hot, but his coat has been starting to shed a little. He is a cross of German French and Satin angora, has the easy going temperament of the Germans and a lovely lilac coat that is more French in character. Not really pluckable but when it reaches about 3 inches, that fuzz just wants to buzz off, starting at his belly. Where I don't see it. The combination of shedding, high humidity, and rain means poor little Buckwheat had a few tight little matts pinching his belly. When matting starts, it can progress fast. Fortunately, I could see the wisps of shed fiber gathering around cage wire and I know that means some bunny needs a haircut. I took care of that this morning. Buckwheat was a very cooperative bunny, really showing off that laid back temperament. And now that he is newly nekkid, he's a much happier boy.
I'm sure it felt wonderful to get all that hot hair off!
