Due to weather and an unexpected trip to Maine, I have been remiss in posting about the babies. Oops.
The Princess babes are now 3 months old, and a couple have moved to their new homes. There is one doe left available. If she ends up staying here with her sister, I won't be unhappy. :)
The boys figured out they are boys at about 11 weeks, so I separated them from the girls and their mother. I had them all out on the deck that pretty spring like day and when it was time to feed the rabbits, I split the pen so the boys were on one side of the fence and the girls with mom on the other. When I came back, the girls were playing up at the front of the pen, but Princess was at the back with her face stuck as far through the fence as she could get, and both boys were huddled up next to her. They knew!! And didn't like it. Made me feel awful. I put the two boys in temporary housing together for the first couple days, but one got a bit rough in his domineering. Fortunately, he moved to his new home. I brought the other one in the house for some pampering and he quite liked it. He will be staying here long enough for me to evaluate his quality, and perhaps meet a couple of the does if he's as nice as I think he's going to be. I am particularly pleased with the substance to his shoulders.
Opals two babies are indeed both boys, and they quite like attention. They greet me at the hutch looking for scritch time. The lilac boy will stay here. Now 3 weeks old, he is starting to show signs of being quite the foofy fella. He also seems to have his dad's attitude - he is already dominating his brother Chessy. Yes, the little chestnut boy already has a name. He will be going to North Carolina in April to join Poof Bear in his new home.
And Bibbi's babies! Adventurous little things hopping all over the hutch, including up on top of the nest box where Bibbi tries to hide from them. No such luck. My gender guess turned out accurate. One black buck, the other three are all does. The buck stays here.
Such a tough job I have. :)
So adorable!!!!!!!
