The need to strengthen my body tissues, - muscles, tendons, ligaments, all - and routinely oil up the joints slaps me in the face every time I get on a specific fiber kick. Lately, that fiber kick has been felting. Discomfort lingers in my right wrist, though I had a marvelous chiropractic adjustment yesterday. Dr. Mark tended me and he has such a gentle touch, my muscles tend to melt with happy before he even lays hands on me. After my usual neck, spine and hip tune up, he worked on my entire right arm, including each finger. Immediate lessening of tension. But adjustments need to settle in while inflammation wanders out, so I have not yet started another felt project though my body and soul aches with desire to felt.
Post holiday hoopla, like post road trip re-entry, twitchies tend to set in. There is a restlessness, an emptiness my nature abhors and must fill. Housework don't cut it, no matter how much the house might need it. I needed a fiber fix. Just not felt. I had a bobbin half filled with fiber from my sweet Hollyhop. The warmth of that rich honey color foof curled it's little bits of halo like cilia drawing me in. "Come hither" whispered through the air. I hithered, just as you would, and wound that single into a center pull ball then plied it up, savoring the soft silky slip through my fingers. Then I plopped it through hot bath and rinse stages, squeezed it out and hung it to dry in front of the fire. Fastest I've ever seen a skein of angora dry. By late afternoon, it was dry enough to photograph, though lighting conditions in the house did not capture it's sweet color. Mickey happily modeled it, though that activity clearly baffled him. But again, the color does not show up. The skein needs green in shaded sunlight. I'm sure any of my neighbors who happened to glance out the window this morning shared Mickey's bafflement because there I was in my jammies and elf boots, arranging my skein on assorted bushes and taking pictures of it. If you don't hear from me again, it will be because they came to take me away ha ha ho ho hee hee.
